Soak the dates in the boiling water and baking soda for about 10 minutes
Once they are soaked, add them to a blender and blend until smooth.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, butter, sugars, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, cardamom, and vanilla until smooth
Alternate between adding in the date mixture and the self-rising flour
Add the cake batter to a greased pan and bake at 350 until fully cooked. Test by inserting a toothpick into the center of the cake, it should come out clean.
Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes before pouring the caramel sauce on the cake.
